After a long spell in the Segunda and Segunda B divisions, Córdoba CF finally earned a place in La Liga for the 2014/2015 for the first time since 1972. Finishing in seventh place, they competed in the promotion playoffs, beating UD Las Palmas for the final spot in Spain’s top division in June 2014.
About Córdoba CF
The modern history of Córdoba Club de Fútbol dates from 1954, when Club Deportivo San Álvaro merged with Club Deportivo Córdoba.
The first season in which the new club competed was in 1954/1955 playing in the third division, but in 1957 they earned a place in the second division.
Cordoba spent lost of the 1960s in the top league in a seven year streak that ended in 1969, but apart from the 1971/1972 season spent most of the decade playing second tier football. However, disaster struck and the club was further relegated at the end fo the 1977/1978 season.

Although Cordoba was again promoted after three seasons in the Segunda B (Spain’s third division), they held on in the Segunda for only two years before again finding themselves in the Segunda B. However, finishing in 19th place at the end of the season, Cordoba was again relegated.
In the Tercera (actually Spain’s fourth division) they finished in second place and were promoted to Segunda B once more. However, the club remained a fixture of 2B for 14 seasons straight until once more earning their place in the second division in time for the 1999/2000 season.
Although able to hang on for six seasons, Cordoba was again relegated for the 2005/2006 season, remaining in 2B for two seasons. Remaining in the second division for seven seasons, they finally made it back to the first division after earning promotion behind Eibar and Deportivo de La Coruña.
Nuevo Arcángel stadium
The club plays at the Estadio Nuevo Arcángel in Cordoba. Owned and run by the city council, it was constructed as a multi-use stadium until work commenced in 2005 to convert it to use for football only. When completed the stadium will have capacity for some 25,000 spectators.
