Turan scores his first ever Barça hat-trick against Gladbach

December 7, 2016

After Saturday’s draw against Real Madrid thanks to a last minute equaliser, some members of the Barça squad expressed their disappointment at how things were going. But with the club already assured of a place in the next stage of the competition, the pressure was off FC Barcelona in their Champions League match against Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Messi scored the opener just after the quarter hour mark off an assist by Arda Turan. However, despite the spate of attempts on the Gladbach goal that followed for the next ten minutes, the first half ended with Barcelona a single goal ahead.

Back on after the break it took five minutes before Turan headed in his first goal of the night. Three minutes later came his second off a Aleix Vidal. And then again fourteen minutes later he struck again off a Paco Alcácer assist. Not only was it his Turan’s first Barça hat-trick but he scored all three goals in seventeen minutes. It was his first ever hat-track for FC Barcelona.

1-0 Messi (min 16)
2-0 Turan (min 50)
3-0 Turan (min 53)
4-0 Turan (min 67)

The result leaves Barcelona at the top of the table on 15 points and Man City second on 9 after drawing against Celtic. Mönchengladbach ended in third place with 5 points and a place in the Europa League, while Celtic ended with 3 points and exit from Europe this season.
