Copa del Rey – Getafe v Barça

May 10, 2007

FC Barcelona flew to Madrid yesterday for the return leg of the semi-final against Getafe. Although fans may have been hoping for a rerun of the home leg when Lionel Messi scored his own Maradona style “goal of the century”, he has been left out of the squad for tonight’s match. Frank Rijkaard confirmed that the decision was made because he feels that Messi would become a target for Getafe, a notoriously rough team against Barcelona.

So what is the likely result of tonight’s match? Statistics work in Barcelona’s favour as Getafe has never beaten FC Barcelona; Getafe also has the enormous psychological disadvantge of their 5-2 defeat in the first leg, so the chances are that we’ll see FC Barcelona facing Sevilla in the final of the 2007 Copa del Rey.
