Barça back on form against LeganesSeptember 19, 2016
After last weekend’s disastrous result against Alaves, Barcelona followed their obliteration of Celtic in the Champions League with another great league result. With Messi and Suarez in the starting eleven, all the big guns were out against La Liga newcomers Leganes on Saturday.
Messi scored the opener at the quarter hour mark off an Suarez assist with the roles reversed 16 minutes later to put Barça two goals ahead. The third prong of Barcelona’s trident also scored just before the break, again set up by Suarez. Despite the match being pretty much settled when the whistle came it had been a spirited fight by Leganes, who came close to scoring one for themselves. Despite their lack of top tier experience they made it clear they were in the match to do as much damage as they could.
Ten minutes into the second half scored scored his second of the night from the penalty spot after a clear foul on Neymar in the area. Nine minutes later Rafinha curled the ball into the top corner of the net to make it 5-0 for the Catalans. But with ten minutes remaining Gabriel scored from a blinding free kick, the first home goal for Leganes in the league.
0-1 Messi (min 15)
0-2 Suárez (min 31)
0-3 Neymar (min 44)
0-4 Messi (min 55)
0-5 Rafinha (min 64)
1-5 Gabriel (min 80)
The result leaves Barcelona second in the league table. Real Madrid still have a clean sheet after their sixteenth consecutive win which equals Barcelona’s record from 2010/11 under Pep Guardiola. Las Palmas lie in third place.
