Barcelona finished 2015 with a 4-0 win against Betis that ensured they stayed level on points with Atletico Madrid at the top of the table. The Catalans still have a game in hand thanks to their participation in the Club World Cup.
Although the opener was an own goal by Westermann, who deflected a Neymar penalty that hit the crossbar, Messi soon opened up the lead thanks to an assist by Neymar. The goal was a fitting celebration of Messi’s 500th appearance for Barça.
The second half saw two goals by Suarez, the first scored almost immediately after the teams commenced play helped by Busquets. And Neymar assisted Suarez for Barcelona’s fourth goal of the night seven minutes from full time to make the final score 4-0.
