Barça ends run of draws with win at OsasunaDecember 12, 2016
Saturday saw Barcelona visit Pamplona to face Osasuna, currently at the bottom of the table having won just one game all season. And so after string of draws allowed Madrid to open up their lead at the top of the table, the Catalans were able to cruise to a fairly comfortable victory.
Barcelona completely dominated possession and played fast and confidently. The first chance at Osasuna’s goal came eight minutes into the match with Messi setting things up for Suarez, but his shot went wide. It was the first of several good first half chances for Barça that went to nothing though. And at the half hour mark Osasuna staged an attack of their own. Thankfully for Barcelona they were unable to finish the move and so the first half ended goalless.
The first serious attempt on goal after the break was from Osasuna. Sergio Leon chipped the ball over the head of Ter Stegen only for it to strike the crossbar. Finally, twelve minutes into the second half, Luis Suarez finally broke the deadlock, assisted by Jordi Alba. It took nearly quarter of an hour before Barcelona could finally relax though. Messi made it 2-0 off another Jordi Alba assist. Although the result was just about sorted, the home side continued to try all the same. But Barcelona weren’t finished and continued to press when they could. Finally Messi scored his second of the afternoon two minutes into injury time. Barça were back in winning form.
0-1 Suárez (min 59)
0-2 Messi (min 72)
0-3 Messi (min 90+2)
Barcelona remains six points behind Real Madrid in the table, with Sevilla just one point behind Barça in third place. Next Sunday sees Espanyol visit Camp Nou for the Barcelona derby, but tomorrow the club plays a friendly against Ahli in Doha. After that, on the 21st, Barcelona faces Hercules in the Copa del Rey, their final match of 2016.
