Barça opens up lead after win against Deportivo

December 18, 2017

A goal each in both halves from Suarez and Paulinho saw Barcelona consolidate their lead at the top of the table on Sunday night when FC Barcelona played host to Deportivo la Coruña.

Luis Suarez scored the opener at the end of the first half hour off a Messi assist, with Paulinho making it 2-0 after Messi struck the crossbar. After the break Suarez wasted no time in scoring his second of the night. Messi had a good chance to get on the score sheet from the penalty spot after Suarez was brought down in the area only to see it saved. But Paulinho scored again after Jordi Alba hot the post to make it 4-0.

1-0 Suárez (min 29)
2-0 Paulinho (min 41)
3-0 Suárez (min 47)
4-0 Paulinho (min 75)

Valencia slipped into third place after losing their match against Eibar. That leaves Barça six points clear of Atletico Madrid and eleven points ahead of Real Madrid. The Catalans head to the Spanish capital for Saturday afternoon’s clasico.
