Barcelona beats ValenciaMarch 20, 2017 Leave your thoughts
Barcelona dominated possession against Valencia on Sunday evening but had to fight hard to come back from behind after Mangala scored the opener for the visitors just before the 30 minute mark. That lead lasted just six minutes before Luis Suarez equalised.
The turning point of the match came at the end of the first half when Mangala was sent off for tugging Suarez’s shirt inside the area. Messi took the spot kick and put Barcelona into the lead. But then, in the blink of an eye, Munir, currently on loan to Valencia, scored again for the visitors.
With a one man advantage Barcelona came on after the break looking for another goal and to settle the match. Messi found the Valencia net seven minutes into the second half but it wasn’t until the end of the match that André Gomes sealed the result for Barcelona.
Again they weren’t at their best and plenty of chances were wasted. But the defence also looked a mess for the first half especially and they were perhaps fortunate Valencia weren’t luckier.
0-1 Mangala (min 29)
1-1 Suárez (min 35)
2-1 Messi (min 45)
2-2 Munir (min 45+1)
3-2 Messi (min 52)
4-2 André Gomes (min 89)
With Madrid also winning their match against Athletic Bilbao Barcelona remain two points behind the league leaders. Madrid also have a game in hand following the postponement of their fixture against Celta in Febraury.
