Barcelona’s winning streak over – for now

February 16, 2009

Barcelona slipped 2 points on Saturday night, after a late 2-2 equaliser against Betis.

Betis were out to win from the start and within 25 minutes were two goals up. Once again Barça showed their fighting spirit that was sorely lacking last season, and Eto’o scored off a rebound at the end of the first half.

Guardiola then brought on more of the big guns, in the shape of Messi and Henry. Barcelona maintained the attack, while Betis was running out of energy, but still no goal appeared.  However, with just 5 minutes to go, Eto’o came to the rescue once more and salvaged a single point from the night.

Real Madrid beat Sporting Gijon 4-0, which now puts them 10 points behind Barcelona in the Spanish league table.
