Comfortable win against Villarreal

Barcelona secured a comfortable victory against Villarreal on Saturday when the Yellow Submarines visited Camp Nou. Villarreal are not a team to underestimated and in their last encounter with Barça the matched ended with one goal apiece.

However, this time Barcelona were in contol and won the match with ease. Neymar scored the opener off a Messi assist only to see an error by Pique gift the visitors a goal eleven minutes later. Messi ensured that the Catalans went iinto the break ahead though off an assist by Busquets.

Sergi Roberto helped Luis Suarez make it 3-1 as the match approached its last 20 minutes, essentially sealing three points for Barcelona. And with eight minutes remaining Messi scored his second of the night from the penalty spot after Jaume Costa handled the ball in the area.

With both Barça and Real Madrid winning this weekend Barcelona remains at the top of the table but equal on points. Remember though that Madrid has a game in hand still and in order for Barça to win the league this season they need Madrid to lose a game while winning their remaining fixtures.

The Catalans have two remaining matches, away against Las Palms and home against Eibar. Madrid have the rather trickier proposition of Sevilla and then Celta Vigo and Malaga. But they must play Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday. Next Sunday’s match against Sevilla is the one to keep an eye on.
