Hard fought win against Las PalmasFebruary 22, 2016
Saturday afternoon’s match looked easy on paper. With La Palmas new to the top division of Spanish football this season and fighting to stay there for next, it should have been a walk in the park for FC Barcelona. Things turned out to be far from straightforward when it came to playing the match though.
Jordi Alba helped Luis Suarez score the opener after just five minutes, but the Barça defence was sometimes sloppy and the hosts quickly drew level thanks to Willian José in the ninth minute. Suarez could have put Barça back in the lead at around the half hour mark, but his header went wide. But then, with six minutes of the first half remaining came Barcelona’s second and final goal of the afternoon. Messi’s shot from a Suarez assist was deflected to Neymar, who finished the job.
Early in the second half Suarez come close to scoring again, but it wasn’t to be. And with Barcelona just a goal ahead and without the normal high possession Las Palmas kept grinding away. However, their efforts went unrewarded and while Barça were a long way from their best they did at least walk away with three more points in the bag.
0-1 Suárez (min 5)
1-1 Willian José (min 9)
1-2 Neymar (min 38)
