Hard fought win at Vicente CalderónFebruary 27, 2017
Sunday afternoon saw FC Barcelona at the Vicente Calderón where they faced Atletico Madrid. It was a tough fought match with Barça far from their best but in the end Ter Stegen did well to only concede one goal and saving the match.
Atleti were really on form in the first half, easily outplaying the Catalans. Luis Suarez appeared to have scored around 30 minutes into the match but the goal was disallowed by the ref. He ruled that Suarez had fouled the Oblak. Pique came close too, but his header off a corner was saved on the line.
In the end it was well into the second half that Rafinha put Barcelona ahead. Suarez messed up a sure thing five minutes after the break, but just short of twenty minutes into the second half the Atletico keeper deflected a shot from Suarez. Rafinha finished the job to make it 0-1. Six minutes later though and Godin equalised.
Barcelona continued to push in the remaining minutes of the game and in the end their patience paid off. Gomes passed to Messi whose shot was blocked. He finished the job though to put Barcelona back in the lead with four minutes remaining. The hosts made a last ditch effort to secure a point just before the final whistle but Pique was there to clear the ball and ensure another win.
0-1 Rafinha (min 64)
1-1 Godín (min 70)
1-2 Messi (min 86)
The result leaves Barcelona one point behind Madrid, after thy came back from a two goal deficit to beat Villarreal. Real Madrid still have one match in hand though.
