Hard slog for 3 points against LevanteFebruary 8, 2016
With Barcelona travelling to Valencia to play Levante this weekend you might have been forgiven for thinking this would be a straightforward match. While Barça tops the Spanish league table, Levante are currently sitting right at the bottom. However, the club has used to transfer window to make a number of signings and so the match, played in blustery conditions, was far from straightforward for the Catalans.
Messi appeared to have made a great start just three minutes in. He put the ball into the net only to see it ruled offside. The Barça squad were far from their best for this match and although they had a number of chances on the goal, the home side too waas making the most of every opportunity too. However, Barcelona went ahead after 20 minutes after David Navarro deflected the ball into his own net off a cross by Jordi Alba. Despite that setback Levante continued to push for the remainder of the first half but when the whistle blew for the break Barcelona remained ahead by that single goal.
The second half continued much the same, with the home side determined to make their mark against Barcelona. Both teams created chances, but neither side was able to finish. And when Messi did he was again ruled offside. In the end it wasn’t until into injury time that Suarez scored Barcelona’s second goal assisted by Messi.
All in all, hardly a classic match, but at least three more points for the league leaders and a good attempt by Levante to win points.
0-1 Navarro (min 20)
0-2 Suárez (min 90)
