Narrow victory for Barça against Valencia

March 3, 2011

FC Barcelona narrowly scraped a victory at the Mestalla in Valencia last night with a second half goal from Lionel Messi.

Barça looked rather scrappy throughout the match which was partly due to the state of the grass; it was dry thanks to windy conditions and hadn’t been watered. Barça was also missing Puyol in defence, although reserve keeper Pinto was put to good use.

The result puts Barça temporarily 10 points ahead of Real Madrid, who  are playing tonight. it’s a big week for Barça with Zaragoza on Saturday night and then comes crunch time when Arsenal visits the Nou Camp on Tuesday.

0-1 Messi (min 76)
