Neymar and Messi overturn Atletico Madrid leadSeptember 14, 2015
Barcelona won their third match of the season on Saturday night when they made a visit to the Vicente Calderon Stadium to face Atletico Madrid. Despite going a goal down early in the second half, goals from Neymar and Messi turned the match around to earn three more points.
The first half started slowly for both sides, with little really happening in the first quarter hour. However, after those first fifteen minutes the Catalans started to pile on the pressure. Again and again they attempted to score, but to no avail. Neither Rakitic, nor Suarez, nor Rafinha could put the ball home. And so it was the first half ended with neither side breaking the deadlock despite Barcelona’s massive domination of possession.
Back on after the break and it was Atletico who broke the deadlock. Five minutes in and Torres received the ball through a gap in the Barça midfield. With just Ter Stegen to beat, Torres put the ball into the Barça net. That lead didn’t last long though and just minutes later Neymar equalised from a free kick. Starting the match on the bench, Messi came on for Rakitic at the hour mark. He made his mark with fifteen minutes remaining, scoring the winning goal set up by Jordi Alba and Suarez.
1-0 Torres (min 50)
1-1 Neymar (min 54)
1-2 Messi (min 76)
