Uninspired win against 10 man BetisMay 2, 2016
After Barça’s two previous matches in which they scored 8 goals against Deportivo and 6 against Sporting, fans expecting more of the same against Betis were to be disappointed. And the hopes that the squad might feel more rested for not playing in Champions League were for nothing.
Really nothing much seemed to happen for much of the first half from either side. But critically, with 10 minutes remaining of the first half, Westermann picked up a second yellow and received his marching orders. Barcelona would have a clear advantage for the the remainder of the match.
Five minutes after the break though a nice bit of play from Messi set Rakitic up for the first goal, the Betis goalkeeper’s line of sight blocked by his own defender. Suarez seemed to be slightly off for much of the match and unable to finish, but when Messi made a long pass to Suarez, who put the ball into the net. Bravo limped off towards the end of the match to be replaced by Ter Stegen. The club has confirmed he suffered a calf injury and may or may not be fit for next weekend’s match against Espanyol.
0-1 Rakitic (min 49)
0-2 Suárez (min 80)
