Winning streak continues as Barça beats Girona in Catalan derby

September 25, 2017

FC Barcelona continued their winning streak with their sixth consecutive league win, this time against Girona. Although Girona are new to the top tier of Spanish football, the club is part owned by Manchester City. The squad is therefore bolstered by players on loaned from the English club.

Barcelona’s first two goals were own goals. First Benitez deflected a shot by Jordi Alba into the Girona net in the first half. And just after the break and the Girona keeper nudged a cross by Aleix Vidal’s cross into his own net. Luis Suarez scored Barcelona’s third with 20 minutes of play remaining, firmly securing three more points and an unblemished record for Barça.
