Back from the brink against Bayer LeverkusenSeptember 30, 2015
After Bayer Leverkusen went ahead 20 minutes into the match it looked for a long time as if FC Barcelona didn’t have enough to get back into the game. And then, 10 minutes from the end, Sergi Roberto equalised, followed two minutes later by the winning goal from Suarez. It was a close thing.
With Leo Messi off with a knee injury Barça was lacking its not-so-secret weapon of choice, but the Germans went out to score right from the start. Ter Stegan was called into action early on as Bayer tried to make an early lead, but it was the second quarter of an hour when the visitors really piled on the pressure.
That pressure paid off after 20 minutes when Papadopoulos scored the opener but Bayer Leverkusen kept at it and came close to scoring a second goal. The end of the first half saw Barça find their feet again and came close to scoring a couple of times as the end of the first half loomed.
After the break the Catalans showed more spirit that the first half, but the first real threat came from Bayer. Barcelona created more opportunities than the first half, but Barcelona still seemed lacklustre. As the clock counted down into the last quarter hour it was increasingly looking like Barcelona just wasn’t going to turn things around.
Then suddenly it all changed. First Sergi Roberto equalised with 10 minutes remaining. Then 2 minutes later Suárez scored a great goal to put Barcelona ahead. The result puts Barcelona at the top of Group E on 4 points after 2 matches.
0-1 Papadopoulos (min 21)
1-1 Roberto (min 80)
2-1 Suárez (min 82)
