Barça extends Group E leadOctober 21, 2015
Barcelona opened up their lead at the top of Group E to three points after last night’s victory against BATE Borisov. The Catalans dominated possession throughout the cold night in Belarus but failed to score until the second half.
The opening minutes of the match saw much of the play in the home half as Barça looked for an early goal. However, the BATE defence and keeper Sergey Chernik made sure the visitors were unable to capitalise on the opportunities they created. But when Sergi Roberto was injured 18 minutes in Ivan Rakitic came on in his place, little knowing that his participation would be decisive.
Although the teams went into the break without scoring, almost as soon as the second half had got under way Barça went ahead. Two minutes in and with the assistance of Neymar, Rakitic shot from outside the box and into the top left corner to put Barcelona ahead. It was gis first goal since the Champions LEague final. His second goal of the night came quarter of an hour later from another Neymar assist.
