Barça knock out Man City for place in Champions League quarter-finalsMarch 19, 2015
Barcelona qualified for the Champions League quarter-finals last night after beating Man City 3-1 on aggregate. The only goal of the match came at the half hour mark when Jordi Alba and Leo Messi set up Rakitic to put the Catalans ahead but with the visitors playing hard it was difficult to do more.
The second half saw a more determined Manchester City keep pushing into the Barcelona end, but at the same time opened themselves up to counter attack. Man City’s best chance came after Pique took down Agüero in the area, but Ter Stegen saved the penalty; and Neymar came close to scoring but saw the ball somehow ricochet off the inside of the post and right across the goal mouth.
The result means Barcelona are through to the quarter-finals with the draw taking place on Friday in Switzerland.
1-0 Rakitic (min 30)
