Barça wins 2015 Club World Cup

December 20, 2015

Barcelona added a fifth trophy to their 2014/15 tally after winning the Club World Cup on Sunday in Yokohama. The only prize not added to the Barça trophy cabinet in 2015 was the Spanish Super Cup, taken by Athletic Bilbao. Still, five out of six is hardly a bad result. The match saw Leo Messi back after missing the semi-final earlier in the week because of a kidney infection. And Neymar also started after his recent groin strain.

The first 10 minutes saw Argentina’s River Plate going all out, but soon the Catalans started to get into their stride. All the same, it wasn’t until the 35th minute that things came together for Alves and a Neymar header to feed the ball to Messi to score the opener. Once that first goal was scored Barcelona remained all out to score a second, but when the break came the score was still 1-0 to Barça.

Once the second half started though it didn’t take long for the second goal to come. Busquets helped Suarez to the second goal just three minutes after the break. And it was Suarez who scored Barcelona’s third goal, this time heading the ball into the back of the net off a Neymar cross.

0-1 Messi (min 35)
0-2 Suárez (min 48)
0-3 Suárez (min 67)
