Liverpool shows Barça who’s boss at WembleyAugust 7, 2016
Saturday night saw FC Barcelona visit Wembley for the last of their three pre-season friendlies in the International Champions Cup. The stadium was the venue where Barça won their first European championship in 1992 and where they beat Manchester United to claim the 2011 Champions League trophy.
After wins against Celtic and Leicester City, this time they faced Liverpool. And if the Catalans expected things to go so well, they had another think coming. Fifteen minutes in, Mané scored the opener for the English club. Although Barcelona ramped things up after that first goal, the first half ended with Liverpool ahead by one goal.
Soon after the break Mascherano fumbled the ball into his own goal to give Liverpool a further advantage. Immediately after things got even worse when Origi scored Liverpool’s third. Despite a number of changes, Barcelona really was on the back foot and unable to turn things around. Three minutes into extra time Grujic scored again to leave the score at 4-0.
Barcelona next face Sampdoria in the Gamper Trophy on Wednesday. It will be their first home match and the crowed is sure to be super excitable whatever the result.
1-0 Mané (min 15)
2-0 Mascherano (min 47)
3-0 Origi (min 48)
4-0 Grujic (min 93)
