Second successive loss for BarçaApril 11, 2016
After last weekend’s defeat by Real Madrid the team was looking to bounce back at the Anoeta on Saturday. Despite having not beaten Real Sociedad on their home turf since 2007, Barça’s form this season suggested that run could end. But with Suarez missing through suspension and an early goal from the hosts, Barcelona were just not capable of pulling things together.
The match got off to a disastrous start when Oyarzabal scored in the fourth minute from a header. Barcelona completely dominated possession but all the same wasted the opportunities that came their way. Minutes after that first goal Messi failed to in his chance to equalise. Meanwhile the Catalans were lucky De la Bella failed in his attempt on the goal. Turan had Barcelona’s best chance during the first half, but it was saved by Rulli.
Barcelona upped the pressure during the second half while Real Socidead seemed to be wilting. All the same Barça were unable to make their high possession count as the Basques crowded them out in defence. And even with new blood in the shape of Iniesta, Alba and Rakitic Barça was unable to score.
1-0 Oyarzabal (min 4)
