Messi to face tax trial

June 11, 2015

Lionel Messi and his father will face trial for tax evasion after a Spanish court, charges that the pair deny.

The footballer came under investigation for allegedly channelling his earnings through a series of shell companies to avoid more than €4 million in tax to the Spanish government. Despite paying €5 million to pay the debt demanded by tax authorities the criminal charge remains and the court ruled there was enough evidence to prosecute.

This is bad news for the Argentine player as even if he is found innocent the trial is sure to affect his training and focus during matches.
