Barcelona closed in on Real Madrid this weekend after the league leaders did not play due to their participation in the Club’s World Cup. Atletico Madrid is three points behind Barça on 35, with Valencia in fourth place on 31. As we approach the halfway stage of the Spanish League it is still a very much open contest, but Barcelona needs to up their game to make the most of when Madrid inevitably stumbles.

FC Barcelona remains in second place in the Spanish League after their spectacular victory against Sevilla on Saturday in which Messi scored a hat trick to become the top all time scorer in the Spanish League.

Real Madrid remains in the number 1 spot after their win against Eibar, with Atletico Madrid in third. Barça will have been pleased with their result following a break for international duties after some poor results.

FC Barcelona remains top of the league after beating Rayo Vallecano on Saturday night, ahead of Valencia, Sevilla and Real Madrid.
